Real Friends vs. Fake Friends

Rap group Whodini once asked a profound, thought-provoking question in one of their most popular songs: "Friends, how many of us have them?" How often do you ask yourself that question? I find that the older I get, the less that thought crosses my mind. In fact, I know exactly who my friends are these days.

It should be apparent. They add to you. They pull for you. You want to make them proud. You're beyond impressing each other. You know each other's quirks. They are already in the categories. Which categories you ask? Friends to hang with, friends to travel with, friends you would call if you were in trouble, those you would call if had a lot to get off your chest. Some of your friends probably fall into more than one of these categories. Those are the ones who should get more of your attention. Now, that doesn't mean you talk every day. Who has that kind of time. But they deserve at least a text now and again just to say "I love you and I'm thinking about you". You should be praying for them and vice versa.

Real friends reveal themselves over time. Fake friends do too, so watch and listen closely. Don't waste your time or theirs trying to keep a relationship going that has run its course. And just because someone calls you "Friend" or used to be your friend, doesn't mean they have to be in your life forever. Some friends will only be there for a season. That's OK. Know when to call it quits. Just like any other relationship, friendships don't always work out. You'll be better for it... and hopefully, so will they. Now... GO BE HAPPY!
